Neil Harper
Associate Principal
McKinsey & Company

Neil Harper is an Associate Principal in McKinsey & Company's New York Office and one of the leaders of our North American Corporate Finance and Strategy Practice. He has worked primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, strategy development, joint ventures/alliances, and corporate finance with clients around the world in a range of different industries including private equity, telecommunications, technology, media, banking, and chemicals. He has also spent significant periods of time working in the firm's Kuala Lumpur and Zurich offices. In addition he has published several articles and presented externally on topics related to M&A, joint ventures and alliances, and corporate finance. His recent experience includes:

Assessment of investment opportunities in terms of growth for growth and value creation for a major
US private equity firm
Development of a portfolio realignment strategy and assessment of merger and acquisition
opportunities for a telecommunications equipment manufacturer.
Advisory role on acquisition of a European educational business by a North American not-for-profit
organization.
Advisory role on restructuring options and related M&A opportunities for an international
telecommunications services joint venture.
Assessment of strategic growth options including mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures for a cable
and broadband operator.
Development of a capital markets perspective on corporate strategy for a major international diversified
financial institution.
Development of a growth, M&A, and selective investment program for a telecom equipment and
networking business.
Advisory role on corporate strategy and restructuring alternatives for a major US telecommunications
provider.
Strategic assessment, valuation, and overall advisory role in relation to proposed telecom asset
acquisitions and joint ventures for a large US utility.
Development of European entry strategy and evaluation and structuring of a joint venture for a web
hosting and internet services provider.
Execution and advisory role in the recapitalization of a major SE Asian banking group and evaluation
of several related M&A opportunities.
Advisory role in a proposed international joint venture in North and South America in the agribusiness
and food processing industry.
Development of a growth program for a division of a major chemical and pharmaceutical concern.
Development of a growth strategy for the retail asset management business of a major investment
bank.

Prior to joining McKinsey & Company, Neil worked for four years for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Edinburgh, Scotland providing audit, corporate finance, and business advisory services for a range of clients primarily in the real estate, engineering, and manufacturing industries.

Neil has an M.A. in economics and accounting (First Class Honors) from the University of Edinburgh and an M.B.A. (Honors) from the University of Chicago with concentrations in finance and strategy. In addition he is a C.A. and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
