Professor Metrick has been teaching at Wharton since 1999 and received tenure in July 2003. He previously taught at Harvard University after having received his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1994. He earned his B.A. from Yale University in 1989.

Professor Metrick has been highly regarded for both his research and his teaching, which have been recognized with awards including: Faculty Research Fellow, National Bureau of Economic Research; Joseph R Levenson Memorial Teaching Award (junior faculty), Harvard University, 1998; Roslyn Abramson Teaching Award, Harvard University, 1998; David W. Hauck Award for Outstanding Teaching, 2001; Undergraduate Division Excellence in Teaching Award, 2001; and the Class of 1984 Award (for the highest teaching rating in the Wharton MBA program), 2003. Professor Metrick's research interests include venture capital, private equity, corporate governance, and decision-making under uncertainty. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Finance.
