Joaquin Avila joined Lehman Brothers in 2000 as Managing Director, in charge of Investment Banking for Latin America.
Before joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Avila worked for Compass Group in New York, and formed his own company in Mexico City (VA Investements), which was established as an investment vehicle to promote private equity investments in Mexico. Under the direction of Mr. Avila, VAI completed the acquisition of Hoteles Krystal one of the largest and most profitable private equity transactions ever closed in Mexico.
Prior to this, Mr. Avila was Managing Director for Banco Santander where he held the position of Head of Corporate Finance and acted as Chairman of Santander Financial Products and Member of the Board of Santander Investments. Mr. Avila has also held a number of positions in organizations including Bankers Trust, Libra Bank PLC, Ministry of Energy and Mines, and Banco Nacional de Mexico.
He holds an MBA from Yale University, an MS from Stanford University and a Bachelor in Science from Universidad Iberoamericana.
