Barry Rosenstein

Barry Rosenstein is the founder and Managing Partner of JANA Partners LLC, a hedge fund managing over $5.5 billion in assets with offices in New York and San Francisco. Since inception, funds managed by JANA have produced annualized returns in excess of 23%, far exceeding their relevant benchmarks. JANA is also a recognized pioneer in the field of shareholder activism. Notable activist successes include partnering with Carl C. Icahn to cause Kerr-McGee Corp. to sell underperforming assets and recapitalize, causing Kerr-McGee’s stock price to more than double in the span of a year, after which the company was then sold for nearly three times JANA’s cost. Other activist victories include bringing about transformational change, preventing value-eroding actions or otherwise maximizing shareholder value at American Coin, Artesyn Technologies, Deutsche Bourse, Handleman Co., Herbalife Ltd., InterCept, Inc., SourceCorp Inc., Time Warner, Titan International, York Co. and other companies on a public basis or through working with boards and managers behind the scenes.

Prior to establishing JANA, Mr. Rosenstein was the founder and managing partner of Sagaponack Partners, a private equity fund. Before this, he founded and headed Genesis Merchant Group’s investment and merchant banking group. He also formed and acted as managing partner of Reatta Partners, a transaction-specific investment partnership. Prior to that, he was a principal in charge of corporate takeovers for Asher Edelman’s Plaza Securities Corporation. Mr. Rosenstein began his career as an investment banker specializing in mergers and acquisitions with Merrill Lynch in New York.

Mr. Rosenstein graduated from Lehigh University (1981) Phi Beta Kappa and earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business (1984). He is also a CPA.
