Mariama Ashcroft is WWB Manager for Policy & Industry Impact for Africa. Ashcroft is also the WWB anchor for the Africa Microfinance Network (AFMIN).
Ashcroft joined WWB in 1999 as Relationship Manager for Africa, where she worked with WWB networks throughout Africa to understand needs, develop strategies for effective microfinance operations, mobilize necessary product and service resources, and manage WWB service-delivery to these members. She played a key role in supporting the WWB/UNDP Regional Program to Build Microfinance Networks in Africa.
Prior to joining WWB, Ashcroft was General Manager of Gambia Women’s Finance Association and leader in microfinance in Gambia. Additionally, she served on the WWB Global Board of Trustees and on other Boards of Gambian organizations.
Ashcroft earned a B.A. in education from University of Wales in the UK. She is a Gambian national and speaks English, French and three indigenous Gambian languages. She is married, with three children.
