Michael H. Buek, principal, is a portfolio manager in Vanguard’s Quantitative Equity Group, which oversees more than $390 billion in assets. Mr. Buek began his Vanguard career in 1987 and has been on the firm’s equity trading desk since 1991.

As of January 2006, Mr. Buek was the listed portfolio manager for seven Vanguard U.S. domiciled index portfolios (Vanguard® 500 Index Fund, Vanguard Small-Cap Index Fund, Vanguard Small-Cap Value Index Fund, Vanguard Pacific Stock Index Fund, Vanguard Materials Index Fund, Vanguard Tax-Managed Capital Appreciation Fund, and Vanguard Tax-Managed Small-Cap Fund), three offshore funds (Japan Stock Index Fund, Pacific Ex-Japan Stock Index Fund, and U.S. Futures Fund), and one collective trust (Russell 2000 Growth).

Mr. Buek earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Vermont in 1987 and his M.B.A. in finance from Villanova University in 1993. Mr. Buek was awarded the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst in May 1998.
